The loudest shouting was when one of the "antis" stated a blatant
untruth. The politicians came in for some stick, too.

For the most part, everybody's opinion was heard with no interruption.

Why? Why force people to smoke a very harmful, *very* addictive drug
with their cannabis?

You omit what I (now) consider the most important point: that medical
trials of cannabis as a prescription drug should begin immediately. I
found "The Pulse", and its description of the suffering of MS patients
and others quite moving. It appalls me that these people cannot legally
obtain the one thing (in some cases) that eases their pain.

Even the US allows 8 people legal access to prescription cannabis for
medical reasons. (One of whom, Bob Randall, was barred from entering
the UK with a supply of his medicine last October. He had been invited
to meet academics and politicians in London to discuss a campaign to
legalize the medicinal use of cannabis.)

The biggest problem, I suspect, is that no drug company stands to make
much money out of natural cannabis (since it's not patentable), so who
would fund the trials?
