Driving South on Route 101 from SFX, you pass signs that read "Los
Angeles 404 miles", and the airport's about 20 miles South of SF proper,
so it must be nearly 450 miles between them.

However, I don't think the latitude is as significant as the topography.
SF is surrounded on three sides by water, and has an unusual climate.
It's usually much colder than Silicon Valley, which is only a few dozen
miles to the South, but features mountains between you and the Pacific.
And SF gets more rain and fogs than the Valley.

Having said that, I've wandered around the top left bit of San Francisco
(the Seal Rocks, and all that) in a T-shirt in January.
