Yup, that's the impairment test that started this subthread.

Maybe not, but it's well known that objective methods of measuring
"too drunk to drive" do not correspond well to subjective "do I
feel drunk?" feelings. It's relatively easy for me to count the
number of drinks I've had, and thence estimate the alcohol level
in my blood. Equally, it's easy to count the number of hours sleep
I've had, and thence estimate my tiredness level.

If it really bothers you, you could invest in an impairment tester
yourself---it would surely cost less than a month's motoring.

My position is that, no matter how "unfair" it may be to particular
individuals, I don't want anyone in charge of a car who is not
capable of driving it safely.

I doubt that this would be a serious problem in practice. I suspect
that the range of human reaction times among drivers is small
compared to the effect that even small quantities of alcohol has
on any one of them.

In any case, impairment legislation could be introduced to run
alongside existing drink-driving laws. The latter could be repealed
if and when a negligible number of prosecutions were made under
them.
