RFC 1123 extends the grammar of RFC 822 to permit the "phrase" to
be omitted before a "route-addr" (which is basically an address in
angle brackets).

No, well you wouldn't expect Sun to have caught up with this yet.  RFC
1123 was published as recently as 1989.  Sigh.
