I'm sorry if I'm starting to sound like a stuck record, but *HOW*
doesn't it work?  What error do you get?

Note that I can't test the code because you don't include the definition
of $flock_struct (maybe that's what's wrong?).

Mike, I'll mail you my File::Lockf.pm which implements fcntl locks;
maybe that will shed some light on your problem.  (If anybody else wants
a copy of File::Lockf.pm, please let me know.  I haven't asked for it to
be added to the module list since File::Lock.pm, which does fcntl and
flock locks, is in the wings.)
